Notes: Words from A Warming World Live Storytelling Event. The Old Village Store, in partnership with Barnstable Land Trust, invites you to join Cape Cod locals Julia Cumes and Meera Subramanian along with Boston-based Joanna Davidson and Jaelyn Carr for a live storytelling event—à la Moth—about survival and understanding in a climate-changed world. The photographer, journalist, scholar, and activist/energy analyst will share intimate stories of survival, resilience, identity and memory in a time of environmental upheaval. This special event is a local redux version of a spring presentation that happened in Boston at WBUR’s City Space, brought to our very own TOVS stage. From the floodwaters of New Orleans to an elephant in India, hear tales about what we share, what we cherish, what we’re losing, and how we might move forward together. Guests are invited to enjoy TOVS’s café, grocery store, and retail shop. Pre-registration is suggested by not required at https://blt.org/events

AND… Meera will be on a separate panel with Orion magazine: 11am Branching Out: On the Future of Environmental Storytelling, presented by Orion Magazine The genre of environmental writing has been expanding in recent years. Writers for Orion Magazine have pushed the boundaries of the genre by exploring the surprising intersections between nature writing and other forms, themes, and subjects. Nonfiction writers and Orion contributors Meera Subramanian (A Better World Is Possible: Global Youth Confront the Climate Crisis), Maria Pinto (Fearless, Sleepless, Deathless: What Fungi Taught Me about Nourishment, Poison, Ecology, Hidden Histories, Zombies, and Black Survival), and Nicholas Triolo (The Way Around: A Field Guide to Going Nowhere) join Orion publisher Neal Thompson to discuss these necessary evolutions in environmental writing and how they transform our view of the world.

Notes: Youth Unstoppable…A Better World Is Possible Book Talk & Seed-Bomb Workshop. Join the Old Village Store, Barnstable Land Trust, Resilient Roots, and award-winning environmental journalist and West Barnstable resident Meera Subramanian for a talk about her new graphic novel, A Better World Is Possible: Global Youth Confront the Climate Crisis. She’ll be in conversation with Katy Acheson, Executive Director of the Cape Cod Climate Leadership Council, and after the talk, from 6-7 pm, Kristie Kapp of Resilient Roots will lead a hands-on workshop to make seed bombs so participants can leave armed to make the world a better place by spreading beauty and life. Books available for purchase. Guests are invited to enjoy TOVS’s cafe, grocery store, and retail shop. All ages welcome. Notes: National Council for Teachers of English’s (NCTE) Annual Convention. Meera & Danica Novgorodoff will be on the panel: Reading the Word to Reimagine the World. Description: This session brings together YA authors whose new nonfiction sheds light on urgent problems of today including the climate crisis, the plight of Palestinians, erasure of queer people, abuses and absurdities of capitalism, and deportation of immigrants. Authors will discuss ways their books equip students with knowledge to reimagine our world. Participants will crowdsource curriculum connections.
